Hello All, welcome to another Tea Cup Tuesday.I am naming today's "Beauty" because I think the cup I am showing today is very beautiful. I only recently came to have this cup. This is a coffee-can style cup. The pink color is amazing. The gold details bring out the beauty of the flowers and colors. It is a generous size as well. I wish I had an idea who made it so I could guess at the date, but there are only a few tiny gold handwritten numbers that read, "1039".
I loved it when I saw it,
and even though it doesn't have a backstamp, I wanted to bring it home with me.
Unfortunately, by the time I arrived at home, it had a crack in it. It was probably already cracked and it just found the trip in the car too tiring. I know how it feels. So I was only a little disappointed. For some reason, when I find something that has a defect, I feel quite loving towards it. Sigmund Freud would have something to say about that!
Such a delicate pink color!
It reminds me of my doggie's veterinarian. He has a cat with a broken back. His back legs do not work at all and he manages to get around anyways.
My husband asked the vet about him and he said that he thought the cat was still having a good life, and that it sent a message to everyone who saw him that just because something is broken doesn't mean you throw it away.
My heart melted when I heard this. I know that I cannot compare a cup to a cat, but the sentiment still holds true.

Everything and everyone is valuable. No matter what.
I may not ever be able to drink from this cup,
but I can still drink in its beauty every time I look at it.

Beauty indeed! I love the soft delicate pink. I feel the same way about defects. If it's old its going to have something wrong with it. lol! all the more reason to give it more love'n care and attention.

Oh Terri, That is one of the most beautiful tea cups I have seen, I love the pale pink color and all the beautiful flowers on it. Oh Terri that is just the loveliest cup I have seen in ages! The crack only places it in the realm of something truly well used and loved. I have always thought that the best thing that can be said of anything or anyone is that it was well used!

Hi Terri! I am so pleased to meet you. I have "known" Martha for awhile and she suggested I join you ladies. I am so glad I did! I just love tea cups ~ I have ones that match and ones that don't. (I have a soft spot for what I call orphan tea cups and saucers ~ you know, the ones that are all that's left of what was a complete set.) Your tea cup is just beautiful ~ so delicate and lovely. The color is perfect. You asked about the provence of one of my tea cups - the white shallow one with the rose pattern is from Germany, or that's what's stamped on the back. It says J&C on the back and the pattern I believe is named Louise - or at least that's my interpretations of the markings. I have a pair of those ~ I found them in an antique shop somewhere. They are very delicate and I just love them.

I was in the Champagne-Ardennes (2 hrs from Paris)for four days and certainly thought of you and your roaming around in Paris. Unfortunately we did not have time for a 'brocante' on Sunday.

ReplyDeleteYes Terri, your cup and saucer are a real beauty! That pink colour with the gold touches and the reserves of handpainted flowers make the pieces very elegant and exquisite.

The golden pattern number in small figures could be Grainger Worcester. Coalport also used golden pattern numbers but started a fractional system once they reached 1000.
I have a similar cup and saucer, bucket shape, 3 reserves on the saucer and 2 on the cup, and also with neatly painted golden numbers, in this case it's number 2661.
I believe it's Grainger Worcester but I'm not sure. Let's continue our research.

The last number on my cup is not very visible, it could also be an X suffix, and that would make it even more Grainger.
