Tea Cup Tuesday Blues

Hello All!
Time again for Tea Cup Tuesday.
I am so enjoying Tuesdays with you all.
Martha and I are having so much fun sharing tea cups with you!
Before I start though, I have a question for those of you using Blogger. Are you all getting the "Service Unavailable" message lately? Are you getting it often? I am even getting it when I try to comment on blogger's posts. So it may not take my comment at all, or take several tries. Let me know if any of you are experiencing this as well.

O.k....back to Tea Cups! Yea!

Today I am showing you a special cup. Not usually my color. But I do like to pick up cups that I find different. This one is different for two reasons (at least in my humble opinion).

First is its very intense blue coloring (as you can see at the photo above), and all the gold on it. It really does have a great deal of gold details and edges.

As well as the vibrant roses inside and on the center of the plate.

A fancy split loop handle with a small thumbrest.

And here is the second reason it is different to me, it is signed by the artist. This is the first signed piece I have. I know Martha has some, maybe many...right Martha?
Reginald Johnson was only 14 years old when he started working with Doulton in 1923!

This cup was produced by Paragon. This backstamp is a little odd from what I can tell researching it. It could be from 1960-1963. The odd part is that the backstamp looks exactly like the one that began in 63, except that it says "China Potters" instead of "Manufactured by".

Not too long ago I stopped in a thrift store, and I spotted these two beautiful glass tea cups. No saucers, I will have to keep an eye out for matches. I just thought the coloring was gorgeous. They were also only $1. So I brought them home! I am thinking these are depression glassware. I know some of you out there know all about this type of glass. I would love to hear anything you can share with me about these. Thank you so much : )

Thank you so very much for stopping by today.

  1. Good evening Terri,
Your blue teacup is very vibrant indeed and very ornate with all the gold trim on it. Quite lovely! I love the aqua colour of the two glass teacups. They do look like depression glass but someone else would know for certain. I always enjoy coming to visit you. You make your post so interesting with all the history of the teacups. Have a lovely week.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  2. Brilliant blue teacup!I just love it and the glass teacups I am partial to. I have a set of my grandma's glass luncheon ware with matching glass cups but they aren't colored liked yours they are clear. Yours almost looks like a type of depression glass. I can't wait to see if anyone knows more~
All my best for a wonderful week!

  5. Hey, Terri!
First the blue tea cup set if absolutely gorgeous!! Then it seems each one you share has feminine uniqueness which I love!
Second, as I was attempting to send you this message, I received a message through Blogger, three times saying "Service Unavailable 503"--I have been receiving this since Saturday; I have no idea why or how to report it.

    Blessing to you,
    Lisa

  7. What an exquisite teacup, Terri. The blue is a stunningly beautiful shade!! And the rose is gorgeous!!

How neat that it is signed by the artist. I don't know that I've ever seen a signed teacup...I certainly know I don't have one like that.

I love Depression glass, and I think your two teacups are lovely. How amazing that you snagged them for $1 each. That's a steal, girl!!

Finally, not sure if this is what you are talking about, but there are many blogs I am unable to access. I get a strange "operation aborted" message pop up and then it takes me to a "service unavailable" page. I don't know what causes this, because it happens to blogs I've formerly been able to access.

    Anyhow, blessings to you.

    Love,
    Patti

  10. Hi Terri! Gorgeous teacup. Love the flowers and colors! And yes, I've been getting that same very annoying error message for DAYS! It is so exasperating when trying to leave a comment! I've begun to copy and paste my comment, just in case Blogger loses it! I think the beautiful clear cups are Depression glass, too, but I'm not an expert! I hope to join in on Tea Cup Tuesday, if I can get my act together this evening!!

  16. Bonjour Terri - Yeay, it's Tuesday! I really love the intensity of that blue teacup and saucer. And having it signed is so special. But I really love the most are the two aqua glass teacups. I'm sure you were surprised to find that they only cost $1 buck each. What a great find!

  19. Hi Terri!
That sure is one gorgeous blue and roses teacup! It certainly is Queen worthy! I've never seen a signature on a teacup before and what a special treasure you found!
The glass cups sure look like depression glass to me and do I see little bubbles in them? Not sure but that would make them even older wouldnt it? The shade of blue is amazing and reminds me of beach glass.
I sure enjoyed my visit today!
    Hugs,
    Lynn
P.S. I havent had any blogger troubles today but having said that I will now I bet HA!

  20. The aqua teacups are lovely. They do remind me very much of Depression glass. I would go to your local library and check out a collector's book on Depression glass. There are hundreds of patterns from that time period...but this reminds me quite a bit of my pink Depression glass plates... Either way, the aqua color is lovely!!!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  25. Dear Terri,
Paragon is definitely the favorite teacup of the day - I have seen 2 other posts of these exquisite cups. I think your glass cups are from the depression era - I have pink ones - I have never seen them in that beautiful blue - what a treasure you have found!

  26. I love the blue teacup you have pictured! I look for blue teacups at antique stores around here and am usually told they are sold out of them.

I like your Depression cups very much and hope to read more about them, maybe someone will offer you saucers for them.

Thank-you again Terri for hosting this fun Teacup Tuesday with Martha, I am learning so much and having a blast!

  30. Yes, I have been getting that message off and on for a few weeks. It is extremely frustrating, isn't it? Especially when you've typed out a comment and it doesn't go through! I assume Blogger is having some glitches.

  31. Hi Terri,
This is one of my favorite colours. It is a vibrant blue!
I was unaware that artists would sign their work. (Though they should, such works of art)I will be turning my teacups upside down to see what I might find.
Thank you for hosting another wonderful teaparty.
    Blessings, Pam

I have also had trouble lately with blogger "service unavailable" issues, difficulty leaving comments and slow blog loading. I wonder what's up with that?

  36. PS--I forgot--I am not having any issues w/Blogger at the moment--don't know what might be wrong with your situation, but you probably have already looked this up on the help page--wish I had more info for you!

  37. Terri, how marvelous to have a signed piece made by Doulton. That's fabulous.

I too am having problems making comments on others blogs and I have heard people are having the same problem commenting on mine. Blogger can be frustrating sometimes. I had a difficult time posting pictures today, when in the past it's been easy. Go figure.

I love the 2 tea cups you have shared with us today!!
I adore the colors. The second one is depression glass but I do not know what specific pattern it is but it is beautiful!!

  41. Hi Terri: I am coveting that cup of yours. It is stunning! I think it is the prettiest cup I have seen in a long time. Your other cups look like depression glass, however, I have never seen teal depression. If they are blue and not teal then, the pattern is Madrid. So this has probably not helped you at all. Thank you for always helping me. Love you lots, Martha

  42. Hi Terri, a lovely set indeed- I like this particular shade of blue offset by the roses and gilding. I have a few examples of Paragon. The Paragon China Company was a British manufacturer of bone china from 1919 to 1960, based in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, previously known as the Star China Company, and more recently part of the Royal Doulton group. Paragon was noted for producing high quality teaware and tableware, and was granted royal warrants by several members of the British Royal Family.

  49. Hello from Australia, I am a collector of depression glass and china trio's..............and I think I may be able to help you with your lovely bargains, the blue teacups. They look very much like (but hard to see the pattern in the photo) From the Federation glass company 1932-1939 the pattern I believe the patter you have is "Madrid".....however there are reproductions of this pattern called "recollection" being made since 1976 also......either way the blue has always been the most popular one to collect as the true collectors of the original pieces say......it is getting very hard to find and are worth their weight in gold, these beautiful soft old "Madrid" pieces. I think I should start putting some of my pieces on my blog..........just to show the world the beautiful china and glass out there....(smiles)

Hugs from a very wet spring day here in a tiny town in Australia....Lee-Ann
