Marie Cloth Doll Debut

Hello All
I have been working on another "Marie" cloth doll this past month. Here she is, my "Hamlet Marie". I call her that because I think that this version of her is the one that lived in her little Hamlet a couple miles from Versailles. There, she dresses more simply and may have even worn her hair down. The Hamlet itself is utterly charming, with cottage like abodes, a windmill, a stream and plenty of kitchen gardens....very romantic!

I used some beautiful quilting cottons, some vintage seam binding which I dyed, some silk, a piece of a very old doily for her apron and some vintage rhinestones.

I may sew her head back on again, it doesn't seem to be on quite right....

I am still learning about this process. I need more practice on doing the face, in fact, she definitely needs new lipstick. I enjoyed making her body and clothing very much, I just need more confidence with the face and hair.

I figure practice makes perfect (or close anyways!) so I will make another one.

I do love making the shoes!

Tea Cup Tuesday and Giveaway!

This is what I wish for each and everyone of you for this coming New Year.

Welcome to the last Tea Cup Tuesday of 2010!

Next year will be here soon and we shall start a new year of sharing. Martha still has plenty of cups left to show us, and I still have a few...in fact, Santa brought me two more! Yea! I will share them another week. Today I want to thank my wonderful friend Martha for sharing this party with me and making it so special with her fabulous posts. Thank you Martha!

Here is my my first tea cup and saucer for today. It is a subtle shade of blue, so pale, so gentle.

It has a lovely iridescent finish inside. I love the stars, so perfect for a holiday cup, especially New Years eve. I think the stars give it a mystical look as well.

The gold hand painted stars shine all around. It sits tall on it's gold trimmed pedestal.

Starry, starry plate!

An interesting gold specked ring handle, with a slight thumb rest.
I do not know who made this magical cup, the bottoms do not have any markings on them.

Here is my second cup. It is a lovely shade of yellow, and it too has gold stars all around. The stars are similar but not the same as the first cup.

I do love the ruffled edge of this cup.
The plate has a scalloped edge as well.

The golden handle is elegant with a larger thumb spur.

Luckily this cup has a backstamp, and as you can see it was made by the Queen Anne China Co.
This stamp is one they used between 1950 and 1958. Which makes this cup about my own age!

Here is a look out my front door yesterday morning....very, very unusual for us here. We enjoyed looking out the window at the white wonder. Unfortunately two of our trees were badly damaged by the weight of the snow. They are not used to it.

The sky itself was about the same color!

Winter beauty is so magical. Just like my cups!

Merry Tea Cup Tuesday and Giveaway!

Happy Holidays

It is that time of the week again, where Martha and I show off our tea cups!

Today's cup is totally different than any I have ever owned. First of all it is not from England.
It is from China. My daughter and I bought a set of 6 because we thought they were so unusual and because my daughter says they make a great prop for her Anime costumes. I think they are very festive cups! All silver, except for the inside of the cup which as you can see is cream colored. I do love the roses embossed around the saucer and cup. It looks very elegant.

This is a busy week for many of us who celebrate the season. I have been in my art room creating gifts for family. I feel a little like one of Santa's elves in there...quietly cutting, painting, sewing, glittering......! I have made more Holiday Vintage Banners, one is partially shown in the photo above. Christmas Creating And Tea Cup Tuesday

Hello All!
Welcome to Tea Cup Tuesday!
I have been enjoying visiting you and seeing your tea cups each week! I really appreciate all of you who participate and those of you who come to see.
Martha (click on her name and go visit her) and I do love hosting this party.
We hope that each one of you and your family are healthy and happy this holiday season. Tis the season to be extra grateful, and we are thankful for YOU!

This tea cup and saucer I am showing today is from my Christmas china set. It is similar in color to the Johnson Brothers china I shared last week, but it has a different pattern of flowers, leaves, vines, and berries.

The plates have different patterns on them.
The dinner plate is similar to the saucer for the tea cup.

The tea cup is very comfortable in the hand and holds a good amount of tea (or hot cocoa....mmm). Here is the salad or dessert plate.

This cup has a simple loop handle with a thumb rest.

(in this photo above the color is showing up more purple than it really is.)

These dishes are not vintage, they are only about 10 years old.
My husband gave them to me for Christmas. I can't tell you how thrilled I was Christmas morning to see all those red boxes from Williams and Sanoma stacked by the tree!

These dishes make a very festive table for the holidays. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of my husband in gifting these to me.

Next I am sharing some of the things I have been working on for Christmas. I do enjoy creating the gifts I give each year. Wish I could craft an I Pad!
Here is a Marie doll I am working one. I am using Barbara Willis's book "Cloth Doll Artistry".
I have not done her head yet.

Here is a pair of bird earrings I have made with natural stone beads, some vintage rhinestone rondelles, and a bird charm.

This necklace is for my sister, she loves stars, natural stones, greens and purples. I hope she likes it (actually...I hope she loves it.)

This necklace is a gift for a friend.

Victoria Christmas Blog Party and Tea Cup Tuesday

What a wonderful time of the year!
Hot chocolate by the fire.....
One cup for me....

And one cup for you! Oh, did you want marshmallows?

Do you like my tea cups? Tea cups are perfect for hot chocolate!

This pattern is called Old Britain Castles. I know you have seen this one before. I do love the patterns and the color.

It was almost dark when I had this tea and took the photos, so my pictures do not recreate the correct colors, some pics are closer than others.

I enjoy using this set in the fall and at the holidays.

The plates and cups have different castles on them.

This set is made by Johnson Brothers. They are a famous maker of dishes.

This set is earthenware, which is not china.
Bone china is made from bone ash and fine white clay, earthenware is made from clay and sand.
The heat temperature and processes are different for each. Bone china goes through a chemical change, where earthenware is clay that is baked hard with heat, no chemical changes take place. This is just a simple explanation, there are some of you out there who are experts on this and could explain it much better.

I have some platters that match, as well as this creamer and sugar bowl, both quite an ample size,
so you don't have to refill them very often during a dinner.

This is the matching tea pot....which I must say I adore!
