Tea Cup Tuesday-Friend's Gift Brightens Stormy Day

(tea message for you: "There is a beauty in your presence")

 Hello All!
Martha and I welcome to to yet another Tea Cup Tuesday!
Due to torrential rains her in NC, my garden teas have been postponed.
Boo hoo!
But that is o.k.  There is plenty to do indoors to bring joy!

In the picture above, I am sitting down with a cup of peppermint tea...
and a project....doesn't tea just go well with any project?
I was spurred on by a gift from a kind friend and mentor Suzy.

These little bundles were so delicious looking, I could hardly unwrapped them!

Suzy created this beautiful fabric collage hanging for me!
I remember ooohing and ahhhhing when I saw her post about it on her blog....
not knowing it was coming to me! Wow!
I love all the layers of fabric, doilies, lace, ribbon and paper...
and the lovely sentiment too. I love it!

Suzy lives in Australia so we do have "thoughts far away"
when we think of each other...
She is lovely!
(Suzy and the girl in the collage! lol!)

She sent me these wonderful pieces of fabric and other goodies..
Thank you so much Suzy for your heartfelt gifts!
Suzy creates the most gorgeous of fiber art...
I adore her lace books too!

It is always inspiring to visit her

So it was Suzy who got my muse going...(and my room messy!) lol!...
next thing I knew I was pulling out all my bits and pieces of natural and dyed lace,
cotton, linen, ribbon.... all kinds of fab vintage pieces I save in little piles...
all kinds of ideas coming to light as I put this and that together.
Finally I was going to give fabric collage a real good try.

I needed more blue bits, so I pulled out the trusty Rit dye and vinegar and got to work.

I love how everything comes out almost the same, but they are all different, some more blue,
and some more to the green. I love them all!

By my second cup of tea...
(Do you like my sweet tea cup?)
I had turned this white linen to this lovely aqua linen above!
 Yay!

and these fab bluesy greens....

Yummy to me, and no calories!

Now I have all I need to get going on my new creations.
First one is just about finished.
Suzy has been kind to give me help via e-mail...
The news says more rain, so I am thrilled to be happily stitching indoors.
Thank you Suzy for your inspiration.

Last Week was my first Garden Tea...and it was very enjoyable.
Soon, I will hold another tea in "Bertha".
Yay!

Thank you so much for coming over for a visit!

if you would like to join in and share tea with us,
just go and create your post with the tea cup or tea you would like to share,
and link that post below. That way we can always find your tea post.
Martha and I truly enjoy visiting you all each week!
Wasn't last week a blast???

Visit Martha's Favorites, Martha's beautiful blog!
Hugs,
Terri

  8. Terri - this is just what I needed to see this morning to get myself in gear! I LOVE this sort of collage work - all my favorite things serendipitously tossed together that is simply transporting! I have my own small collection - piles here and there - and am working on re-organizing all my stuff to return to my own art - and open on Etsy - which is awaiting a basement re-fit. I have been dragging my feet in that direction - it is a daunting task. But your images today have lit a fire under me - I can't get to THAT place until I purge and re-purpose space. Basement today - with tea (sweet cup, BTW) and since we're under cloud cover and rain - not missing much outside.
Blessings to you - always an inspiration!

  10. Terri,

I love the hue of sea green aqua your lovelies have turned into! Pretty! I love you took nasty weather and used the time for your artistic creativity. Your gifts were quite thoughtful (and inspirational, too, she must have been flattered!)

    Your teacup is gorgeous, too.

It too is rainy today - so no tea outdoors - well at least photographing them, I DO tend to run into my little "Zen Room" for teatime to get some fresh air if it isn't too hot or TOO hard raining.

as always, thank you for hosting.

  14. Dear Terri,
what a gorgeous idea to dye all these fabrics. They tuned out beautiful with a soft turquoise, which I love very much. I know thats your favored color. The picture with the tea cup and the aqua lace is so pretty. You will make wonderful things with the lace. Thank you for sharing this great idea and for hosting this sweet event.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  20. Terri Dear your gifts from Suzy are divine. Her work is stunning. Now I can look forward to seeing your lace collage work. The pieces you dyed are very peaceful and gorgeous. A spot of tea...chilled for me as it is 100 plus degrees here. Creative Hearts are Happy Hearts...

  21. Terri, those linens and laces turned out dreamy; like sea foam froth. I have a friend in England, Joanne,
she's ever so clever. She makes unusual jewellery but also dyes things with natural plant based dyes. She planted indigo this year and I'm hoping she'll have a crop to do something with. Oh, she writes a blog called Joy Pure and Simple. I've only really dyed Easter eggs with onion skins and stuff like that but wouldn't it be wonderful to dye your own fabric with your own grown indigo and make a lovely shirt or something. Hmm, maybe when I don't have seventeen million things lined up. :)

  28. I have grown an appreciation for hues of aqua myself lately and the first step was a can of turquoise spray paint.
I like the colours of the teacup and the way the lace and linens turned out. A number of bloggers are covering books and boxes with lace bits and they sure look pretty.

  30. Dearest Terri,

Suziqu is an amazing artist. I'm delighted to say I too have of late been creating some textile collages. The one you have from Susiqu is exquisitely beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing.

I love the way you use the Rit to color your linens and laces so perfectly.

Yes, that teacup is very sweet. You are always an inspiration!

  31. Hello Dear Terri
Well I can see you drinking many a cup of herbal tea as you enjoy creating your new collaged banner. Terri it is coming together so beautifully and you should be so proud of your work.
The dyed laces and doilies you began with are the softest shades. I love them and, of course, they are your colors too.
I've never used the RIT dyes but may give them a go. I often use the silk dyes.
It was such a pleasure to create this collage for you and do hope it inspires you to make many more beautiful pieces.
Enjoy it all dear friend. You are a joy and blessing yourself,
Warm hugs from a frosty but sunny morning here in Australia,
    Suzy
