"Why do we do this week after week?" Martha and I might ask ourselves...
we do it because it feels good to focus on
beauty and friendship!

AND create Beautiful Friendships over a cup of tea!
AND create Beautiful Friendships over a cup of tea!
When I first saw this cup, I thought it was a variation of
Old Country Roses, by Royal Albert.
It matched my OCR teapot shown here.
It matched my OCR teapot shown here.
The beautiful red, yellow and pink roses look so similar.
It is actually a cup by Royal Chelsea.
New Chelsea Porcelain Co (LTD) began in 1912, on Bagnall St., Longton, Stoke On Trent, England,
In 1951 they continued work under a new title, New Chelsea China Co (LTD) and closed in 1961.
This cup has a backstamp I have not yet located, but I am guessing
it was manufactured after the firm changed it's name in 51.
I had not look that closely when I purchased it from Macy's years ago.
I assumed since it was Royal Albert it had been manufactured in England.
Here you see the perfection of Red, yellow and pink roses.
The artist took years to perfect this pattern.
Check out this Ebay page on "How To Buy Royal Albert Old Country Roses"
The author has some interesting information about the history, different
manufacturers and qualities over the years.
This is where I learned about the different countries OCR is made.
The author has some opinions about collecting this pattern.
I enjoy mixing and matching china.
And this pair seem to be perfect for each other.

ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty cup, that touch of gold adds real luxury, I can imagine it would feel very special to have a cuppa from this beauty. Hope you enjoyed your travels, thank you for your comments on my blog too. Elaine x
ReplyDeleteHello Terri! Thank you for hosting. What a lovely post and gorgeous photos...looks like you have had some fun outings lately. Enjoy your tea times :)

Good Morning, Terri! Delighted to wake to Old Country Roses - yes - a favorite of mine, too. I am always amazed at the stories behind the patterns and how such works of art we take for granted may possess great drama in the steps taken prior to their gracing our tea tables. I mix and match, too - and I keep my OCR teapot on my computer desk - holding pens and pencils - because I found it for pennies at a yard sale missing the lid. Someday - perhaps- I'll find the lid the same way!
ReplyDeleteJoy!

Hello Terri! As always, you delight us with a wonderful teacup, it's lovely! And the tea pot too. Interesting research about backstamps, it's part of this joy, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI'm happy joining your nice party again.
Besos!
Good morning Terri,
ReplyDeleteYour teacup is gorgeous and a lovely match to your pretty teapot. I like the mis-matched pairing; makes it whimsical. Thanks for for sharing your pretties with us and have a beautiful day.
Blessings,
Sandi
Hi Terri, Your teacups are always so pretty. Thank you for the info on OCR. I'll have to look at mine a little closer.

Terri, your teapot and teacup are both so lovely. It's amazing how some pieces just go together. Thank you for hosting ... wishing you a peaceful week, hugs and blessings, C. (HHL)
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, That was such an interesting article about purchasing the china. I know that many English potteries moved their production to Asia in the late 90s, including Wedgwood who made my everyday Nantucket pattern. Backstamps tell so much! Thank you for hosting. Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful teacup and it goes perfectly with your Old Country Roses. Lovely photos of treasured possessions!

Hi Terri, your tea cup is gorgeous! My teacup is nothing special, just a thrifted white cup. Worked well for my Witches tea. Happy to be joining your party today.
ReplyDeletehugs,

Dear Terri,
ReplyDeleteThis cup is the most beautiful one I have seen-the roses in yellow and deep pinks and red looks stunning ,and yes it goes so well with your teapot,- it must be so delightful to have tea from such a special lovely "gold" cup .
I hope your week is lovely, and wishes you a happy day!!
Hugs from Dorthe
Oui cette tasse est merveilleuse, j'en ai chiné une comme celle-ci sur ebay.
ReplyDeleteChaque mardi, un article complet sur une tasse à thé est très enrichissant.
Cordialement. Babette
Hola Terri, querida amiga.
ReplyDeleteBelleza en esa taza de té y la tetera. Amo las teteras.
Me encanta como lo describes. Tu página es maravillosa, resalto también que me gustan mucho tus carpetitas crochet, ganchillo.
Un beso, todo muy romántico.
Interesting pint about OCR manufacturers. My Mom has this china so I will check hers to see.
ReplyDeleteAll that gold on your teacup makes it look elegant and a good match for the OCR. I had no idea that the china was made anywhere other than England either. Nice to learn something new and as you say, it's all about sharing.
ReplyDeleteJudith
That really is a beautiful cup Teri and my whole heart went out to it. I think it's because my grandmother had these beautiful gilded things in her house in Prague, and later her house here in Vancouver and it's something I associate with her and with treasures from my childhood. (Or, maybe it's as grandma always said and I'm part magpie always attracted to shiny golden things. :)) Hugs to you and I hope your week is shaping up nicely.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting - and for the link about Old Country Roses. Lovely to visit - as always!
ReplyDeleteSending love your way! Thanks for all you do for me. Hugs, Martha
ReplyDeleteHello Terri
ReplyDeleteOld Country Roses - so perfectly named and what could be nicer for sharing tea!
Thank you for hosting your "tea party" and so nice to bring graciousness into our lives.
Hugs
Shane
Beautiful teacup and teapot! Interesting that it came from Indonesia! You DO share beauty in your blog. It makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteThe teacup & teapot really do look as if they belong together, and judging from your photos, they do , even though they were made by different companies.
ReplyDeleteI always find your history of the makers of teacups and china very interesting Terri, your cups & saucers so beautiful, and your posts inspire me to appreciate even more the china I have stored away. ( and to use it ! )
Good Morning Terri...
ReplyDeleteI love your teaser photography whether it's OCR or not ...It's BEAUTIFUL to see and to drink from...The colors are outstanding ...Such a sweet teapot( Ha ha) I love your OCR story and will venture over to read up .Thanks for the tip and lovely teatime chatter....Hugs
Dear Terri,
ReplyDeleteI am always amazed how similar patterns are. I have seen such similarities on English china as much as on German. Anyway, since my participations on the virtual Tea Times I have learned from you all, how nice it looks when matching china is mixed. That looks so perfect on your photos. I don't care where the china is made. Important is just the good look for me. Thank you for sharing your wonderful china and for hosting this sweet event.
Best greetings, Johanna
Hello dear. I never tire of your beautiful tea cups and china. Sipping tea is such a relaxing event that allows us to stop and reflect on all we are thankful for. Tea Bliss...
ReplyDeleteHi Terri...a bit late. Just got back from 3 days at the coast...with no internet access. Love the teacup! Chelsea and their versions is a favorite of mine. There are some strong opinions about Royal Alberts china production now. When I was in Staffordshire 2 years ago, there was talk that production of OCR would be moved back because of quality problems...but haven't heard if it has been. Have a great week! I totally agree about beauty and friendships! So precious!
ReplyDeleteRuth
Hello Terri, your teacup is exquisite - it is so very much fun to get together to share loveliness! Sets our week off right - I appreciate you and Martha hosting,

ReplyDeleteHi Terri, thank you for hosting wonderful tea time. It helps bring people from far and near sharing blissful afternoon teas. OCR was the first tea set I bought and I truly treasure them. Yours are elegant and distinctive.
