Hello All, and welcome to Tea Cup Tuesday, a party Martha and I host each week on to showcase some of our favorite tea cups. Today I thought I might show two cups I consider unusual. At least unusual to me.
This first cup was recently given to me by my dearest friend. It belonged to her husbands great grandfather.
I am totally honored to be able to keep this cup for her.
The first reason I think this set is unusual is the vibrant colors used to paint a joyful scene, and it looks as if the entire cup and saucer were hand painted . I love that the trees are vibrant blue! And look at the little butterflies flitting about.

The entire scene uses unusual colors that you do not typically see in nature.
And here is the second reason I think this cup is unusual....it has two backstamps. I have never seen a cup with two before. Have you? I would love to hear from anyone who has. The green stamp is Tuscan China and it appears to be stamped over the brown one. The brown stamp says Lawley's EST. Phillips's 1760 Regent St. P4
I did a little research on the internet, and found through Google UK that Edgar E. Lawley was a successful businessman and philanthropist known for his chain of china and glassware shops, "Lawley's of Regent Street". I am guessing that he sold Tuscan China in his shop and had his stamp on it along with the makers stamp. This makes sense to me anyways. Lawley's is still in business today.
I am guessing that this cup was created after 1936.

Here is a cup that I find unusual for it's color and design. This pedestal cup with the simple loop handle was made in Bavaria.
I really was attracted to the unusual green and gold pattern when I first saw this cup in a dirty old antique shop in upper Ontario, Canada.
The pattern seems to look like gold tassels hanging down, with a gold floral type pattern in the bottom of the cup.
Don't forget to go over to Martha's and see her china. The link is on her name above. She has the most amazing collection! She will out last me for sure. Many of you ask me where I keep my tea cups....well, let's just say my cups runneth over! I am sticking them all over now. My hutch is far too small : )
If you would like to join in the fun, create a post about your tea cup, tell us about it and then come here and fill in the two blanks below for Mr. Linky and you will automatically be added to the list.
Martha and I totally enjoy visiting all of you and seeing your china. It may take a day or two, but we visit everyone. Sometimes, though, I am unable to leave a comment, or even get to a page for one reason or another. It is a good idea after you link up with Mr. Linky to click on the link yourself and check and see if it gets to your blog post.
Hugs to you all and have a fantastic week!

Hi Terri: I just love the first one. It is so beautiful. It looks like a piece of art. I have the second cup in pink. I too think that it looks like it is standing on tassles. Just beautiful this week. Thanks and lots of love, Martha
I love teacup Tuesdays! I really like the unusual one with the two stamps... very interesting. It's a really cute one. Have a great day!

Good early (3:45 am) morning Terri,

Visiting you is a great pleasure for me !

I enjoyed these beautiful teacups and your descriptions! I have several "new" teacups purchased on my trip to Alaska and I can hardy wait until I get home and can blog about them.
I too very much like the first teacup.Joyful is a perfect description of that cup!If you find out anything about the double stamp please post it, that is very intriguing. The green teacup seems very sophisticated to me, and the kind of teacup a man would drink from.( or a sophisticated lady such as yourself!)
Terri, soooo pretty! I posted my teacup on Sunday when we returned from the Bouckville Flea Market. I must bring it up to the top today! :-)
Thank you for hostessing again!
Diane
Hi Terri :) These cups are definitely quite unusual, and the first cup more so with the double stamping on it. You are probably correct in saying that the shop owner put his stamp on it as well; certainly good for business, right? The buyer would always know where they purchased their cup from :)
Wishing you a wonderful & happy Tea Tuesday!
Warmest hugs, Brenda
Terri, That first cup is just awesome! So vibrant and colorful!
Blessings, Beth
Terri, I have fallen hard for that first cup! The design is so sweet and very different from anything I have ever seen. What a treasure!
xo

Hi Terri!
Both of these teacups are so pretty but, so different! I love both of them for their uniqueness! That first one is a small work of art. So, different!
I hope you have a wonderful day!
Terri,
I love this idea of Tea Cup Tuesday, it is so lady-like and feminine. I have to pic-out my cup for next week!
I really like the first cup, it is so unusual.
Lisa
All the cups are exquisite, but the 'unusual' one is just amazing. And what a thrill to be able to give it a home.
Terri, your teacups are very nice and yes, unusual! Thank you for sharing them with us. Happy Tea Tuesday!
Blessings,
Sandi
What wonderful cups you have.
I get so inspired to get more cups as well.
Thank you for a cozy and vintage-like blog.
Hugs Ida from Sweden
They are both unusual. The hand painted design of the first cup is quite unique. I also like the pretty green color and shape of the second cup.
Wow, those really are unusual. And very pretty, both of them. That first one is very intriguing - I just love the colors. And I've never seen two backstamps, either.
That teacup is not only unusual but it's truly exquisite. I love tha pattern and colors, so pretty! I like the green one too. You have so many beautiful tea cups, Terry...Christine

Sherry
Your teacups are fabulous as usual... especially the first one. Love the pattern and the colors!
Hi Terri, thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your nice compliment on my tutu. It's my first and I'm just tickled with it!
I adore your teacup this week. What a lovely collection you have. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hugs! xoxo
Hello Terri- Thank you for visiting and wishing me well. I am doing much better now. Your teacups are splendid but I absolutely love the first one. It is so ‘Happy’ looking. That’s the word that fits! It looks like little gnomes could jump out from behind those trees at any moment. It is adorable. Take care.
Your first teacup looks very precious ..... certainly looks hand-painted. Quite unique I should say!
You have so inspired me Terri - I recently bought a Davenport cup on ebay circa 1850 (interesting; but not very pretty!!)

HI Terri...Oh your tea cups and saucers are really nice...and you are right, they're "unusual"...but in a very good way :) :) I like those unique items!! The first teacup with saucer, reminds me of something out of a children's fairy tale...with all the bright colors. I'll bet the person who painted this loved children!!! That's what I like to think anyway :) :) :)
The other one...not sure...but it reminded me of something from the 1950s or 1960s. I have a vintage book of backstamps from various companies..I think the book was printed in the 1940s or 1950s. I got it for FREE at a yardsale...because it was the last hour and they needed to get rid of some stuff. I'll go take a look at it and report back if I find out anything!!!! Have a lovely day. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
Loved both the cups you shared this week - but the first one has the most gorgeous flowers and is very unique! Hope you are enjoying our last few days of summer! Have a wonderful weekend! :)
My goodness, both teacups but oh so different.
Delightful photos, thanks for sharing them.
Catherine
