Downton Abbey ATCs

Hello All!
Our Downton Abbey swap was a success and so fun!

I received 4 lovely ATCs.
This first one is from Jan at A Journey..
It features my favorite couple and is very romantic!

Jan created this wonderful bag for the ATC as well as a handmade tag.
Thank you so much Jan!

This colorful beauty is from Christine LeFever.
It so beautifully shows Carson's attitude...."we may have to have a maid in the dining room"....GASP!
I love it!
Thank you Christine!

This one is from Judith at Poppy Cottage.
I wish you could see it in person, the photo doesn't do it justice as it is embossed in gold and (I think, watercolored).  It is very feminine, just perfect!
Thank you Judith!

And here is Elaine's from The Craft Shed creative ATC book!
How cool is this???
The front is fab with the castle in the background and the beautiful fence in the foreground.

The inside features another favorite couple of mine from the series....
Tom and Sybil.
The picture frame is embossed. I love the way she made this, it is like a little romantic keepsake!

Even the back is lovely with this Art Nouveau style design!
Thank you Elaine!

Thank you everyone who joined in this swap!
I would love to do another one in the future...

I haven't been around very much lately due to health challenges.
I miss visiting you all!
I hope to be back in blogging form soon...
But will be hopping around when I can : )
Hugs,
Terri

Hello All!
Welcome to Tea Cup Tuesday.
Today I am sharing a great thrift store find...
This lovely set of dishes!

I was delighted to see this set of 40 pieces sitting all alone
on a dusty shelf in the clearance room of a thrift store.

Ten cups and saucers....pretty in Pink!

This set has a sweet pattern on a creamy white background...

A lovely floral spray of roses.....

The Scalloped edges add to the romantic pattern...
She really does set a pretty table!

There is extra texture added along the edge, a frilly relief in white....

The cup is a simple clean shape with a very plain handle.
When holding it in the hand it feels ever so light and fine!
(and I will tell you I paid a dollar a piece!)

This Bavarian company is like so many British pottery companies, in that two people go into partnership and create beautiful pottery, but they are so unhappy together they split and go their separate ways. Each of them becoming famous for their china. It is also like British companies in that they went through several name and owner changes through the years.

Fritz Thomas left his partner in the late 1800 and began his own company in 1908, with his new partner and with great success. The backstamp on this set varies, some are as above, and some have just the orange number and some do not have "Germany" on them. I could not find these exact stamps in my research, but many similar, and I would guess they were manufactured around 1939-52.

Last year I posted about my trip to the Winchester's Discovery Center's show "Tea Tales" a historical look at Britain's favorite drink. You can read about it HERE.  Well, I forgot to share this tea cozy with you that I saw at the same show. I had meant to, but forgot! So here it is . She is dated between 1920-30.
Isn't it just lovely?

Downton Abbey ATCs

Downton Abbey is a masterfully crafted saga of a wealthy titled family in England and those that serve them. It has been a delight to watch each season and I am looking forward to the next one, just like many of you.
The waiting might go by faster if we get creative!
Would you like to join in a ATC swap featuring our favorite cast?

We all have our favorite characters....we all have our favorite quotes.......
Here are a few of mine....

(It is a bit blurry here, but better in "person")

Poor Lady Mary! Childish as she begins, she does grow throughout her experiences.
The answer to this question? Her mother tells her "As many as it takes...."
Boo hooo! I can't help but have a soft spot for Lady Mary.
I also have a soft spot for Lady Edith....she too grew during the war and became more of herself.
And I was quite shocked with her behavior with the married farmer!!!

Mrs. Patmore wasn't all that keen on the newfangled telephone!

And Lady Violet....well, let's just say we can always count on her for an eye opening remark!

I still may tweak these a bit. I love the creative process, and this was so fun!
I water colored the background.
Then I used a photograph of Highclere Castle (where Downton Abbey is filmed) from when I visited there last summer, and I created a tissue paper transfer of the Abbey. I stamped script as well as wrote on the background on one.

So far we have three participating in this swap. As soon as I know about how many we will have, I will put up the information. Let's just keep it simple, just have fun!

Next post I will share what I have been soldering for sure!
I am getting better! Yay! I hope to have a bracelet finished for tomorrow to share.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
Hugs,
Terri

Tea Cup Tuesdays-Violets!

Hello All!
Welcome to Tea Cup Tuesday!
Martha and I welcome you to tea cup hop with us today.
We enjoy collecting tea cups, we have fun sharing them with all of you, and we Love getting to come and visit you and see your beautiful tea cups!

One of my fondest childhood memories is of picking violets in the lawn in spring.
I can recall going out to the side yard, peering through the new green grass, hoping to see the first signs that the violets would be blooming soon. And when they did, I would keep a few with me all day in my pocket
just so I could look at them and smell their heavenly scent.
I loved their beauty and the scent.
I still do.

This cup took me back to these sweet memories, so I thought I would share her with you.

She may look a fairly plain Jane from the front.

But inside, she is full of beauty!

She has a sweet handle with a good size thumb spur, and a little gold detailing.

The color is a bit off, it was a rainy day here, and little sun.
But you can see the purple violets against her mint background.

And Yes, she is a Paragon! Could you tell by the look? I am guessing that if I checked every cup in my home, many of them would be from this fine company. Herbert Aynsley and Hugh Irving began the Star China Company in 1897. Mr. Anysley being the great grandfather of the many who began Anysley China, my second favorite porcelain manufacturer. In 1919 the company changed the name to Paragon. Today it is part of the Royal Doulton group. I am guessing that this cup was created around 1938.

Here is my newest favorite Violet....

Maybe you know her?

                      Violet Crawley
Dowager Countess of Grantham
