Hello All, Happy Tea Cup Tuesday!
My cup today was made in Stoke-On-Trent in Staffordshire, England. How many times have we heard that name before??? Many. That is because this area of England specialized in china. You can visit there today, where there still are many china manufacturers, as well as pottery museum (pottery means china) and factory outlet stores.

One day soon I am going to go there and learn about the history of tea cups in England : )
I love the colors of this cup. It is a bit of a peachy pink, and has a Asian feel the design. The strong reddish orange flowers in the bottom of the cup really stand out. The gold trim makes the cup very regal. It is a lovely cup to drink from, generous and comfortable.
Alfred B. Jones and Son made Grafton/Royal Grafton China from 1900-1972. Eventually the company was called Royal Grafton Bone China Ltd. The term "Royal" was only used after 1949.
The three loop knot was on of the commonly used marks for potters in Staffordshire.
I think that this cup was made somewhere after 1956 but before 1963. The gold numbers on the bottom of the tea cup might be the pattern number. The mark to the left of the number might be a tally mark, a way to identify the person (or group of persons) who worked on it. So they could get credit for it, if it was done well enough to go to sale.
I hope you are enjoying your summer. We have been having record high temperatures and best of all...thunderstorms! Yea!

ReplyDeleteYou already know so much about teacups. Looking forward to you sharing even more!
This teacup is so special because of its design and colour. Thank you for being such a graciaous hostess.

PS I have commented on your give away. Is it rude to say again what a special book this it and I would savour each page as I would savour a warm scone with clotted cream and jam.
That is a beautiful teacup. I only have one like that, where the outside of the cup is not decorated with anything other than a gold line around the middle...but the inside is exquisitely decorated. Really, I have seen so few teacups like that, so they are quite unique.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the historical info about the manufacturer. I am amazed at how much you know!! Where have you gotten all that info?
Have a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Patti

ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty teacup, Terri. I love the color too and the pattern is very pretty too. Quimper is the manufacturer and it is a French company. I don't know much about it but you can visit Debbie (Confessions of a plate addict) and you'll find out more about it....Christine
ReplyDeleteThank you for leaving a comment for me. This is a very regal cup indeed, thanks for all the information about the company.
