Hello All!
Welcome to Tea Cup Tuesday
Where Martha and I show off our love of tea cups.
I am glad you are here!
Here is one of my very favorite tea cups.
I think what attracts me the most to this cup is the lovely design,
can you see the pattern in the yellow areas?
Looks almost French to me.
And I really do love the coloring of this cup.
The yellow mixed with the beautiful pinks, blues, lilacs,
yellow and greens complements so well.
yellow and greens complements so well.
I even love the shape of this cup.
It is only slightly footed and has a lovely elegant handle trimmed in gold.
This cup was manufactured by Tuscan China in England.
I know this cup was created before 1967 as Wedgwood bought them out and added "Royal" in front of Tuscan. The Plant family who originated the company seems to go all the way back to 1775. The entire family was involved in the business and they made some important discoveries in manufacturing and designing china before merging with Susie Cooper in the 1950s before Wedgwood came along.

Did I ever mention to you all that I stumbled upon two pottery books
for a buck at a flea market this past spring?
This is one of them, and it was very useful in researching my cup. The book is called "Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks" and written by Geoffrey A. Godden F. R. S.A. The Plant family has three pages! Upper left of the page, the middle stamp is the one on the bottom of my cup, and it says...1947+...so I can guess was made between 1947 and 1961. I think it was closer to 1950.
Thank you all so much for stopping by!
I haven't been posting that often in the past few months, you may wonder where all my crafting is???
Me too! Gak! Real life is interfering with my blogging! Has this ever happened to you?
I do hope to be back in the swing of crafting and blogging....and videos soon!
I appreciate every visit you make to my blog!
Hugs,
Terri

Hi Terri,
ReplyDeleteSo Happy to see you and your beautiful tea cup! That IS a beauty. There is something about yellow that just makes us "HAPPY and want to SMILE"! This is a beauty!!! Every time I try to look up STAMPS on my china "They always seem to be a LITTLE different than what is shown"! The POST I've entered this week in the party has some Demitasse cups and saucers MIXED into it! It's part of a treasure post...
I'm HAPPY you are busy. That is a good thing. BUT always "KNOW you are missed"!
Have a fun week,
Big Hugs,
Donna

ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy
What a beautiful teacup! I love the colors and the information about it is so interesting. Thank you for hosting and happy June!

Terri your teacup is indeed lovely with soft colors and romantic shape. Your books are a real find with so much information. Life indeed gets in the way of creative endeavors. I am overloaded with my volunteer work at my local chamber and therefore I am not creating as much as I would like. Let's find even a few minutes to "play" and be creative...
ReplyDeleteYes, it just did happen to me. Life has a way of doing that to bloggers from time to time. I just took some major chunks of time away to move my studio into the downstairs area of my home. Needed more room to expand.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and for sharing your sunny and happy tea cup!
Ciao bella!

Terri, you got the so-called bible of marks...the Godden. He is the leading British authority. His book has been the standard for years. Great find. I love Tuscan. They made such great china! A lovely teacup!
ReplyDeleteRuth
Lovely teacup. The breathing summer with his yellow tone and motifs of roses and flowers. It is exciting to read about the background of china and teacups. I wish you a great week! Zinnia
ReplyDeleteHi Terri,
ReplyDeleteits really a wonderful tea cup. The colors, the shape and the wonderful flower decoration makes it very special. I love to see the stamps on the backside and to read the informations. There is so much to learn for me. Thank you for sharing your treasures with us. Life is always interfering, what we plan. But that is normal.
Best greetings, Johanna

But you found such a precious book, Terri! Geoffrey Godden is such an authority in these matters!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I see it helped you already...
Your cup is superb and you're right, being English,it has a certain French look to it. Probably the unusual and rich yellow, the flower reserves...
I loved it!
Have a great week!
Hugs

Hi Terri! So glad to know there are others needing blogging breaks! I have barely been able to sneak a peek all May! Now we are June and I really want to get back in the saddle. Blueberries helped me do so today!
ReplyDeleteGreat find in that pottery book for $1!! Now you'll be keeping us all up on our china symbols. A lovely teacup to show, today, too. I just brought home something similar only with more green rather than the yellow. Will have to boast on that soon.
Joy!
Kathy
This is a beautiful teacup Terri! Love the pottery books, great find!

ReplyDeleteHi Terri, you cup is so sunny and cheery! I just picked up a Tuscan teacup. I'd love to have some reference books like you found.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know what you mean about crafting. My quilting has sort of stepped back lately and I am missing it all of a sudden. I have been really busy with my Etsy and it's kind of a part time job now. I like it, but miss my creative outlets.
That is a stunning set! I love the yellows and greens, and the detail is so intricate! You must feel very special sipping your tea :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your informative post Terri. I'm learning that tea cups are not just about tea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cup. You're lucky, score those books. I'm always on the lookout for them to learn more about my set, but of course they are hard to get.
