Hello All!
Welcome, once again, to Tea Cup Tuesday!
Martha and I are searching our cupboards and cabinets once again...
So we can share our tea cup fun with you!
This time of February, our thoughts turn to the romantic.....
I felt this pink and white frilly corset shaped tea cup
seemed to be just right for a bleak Monday morning before Valentine's
She is beautiful without even trying!
Her lovely spring like bouquets lending a very active and cheery feel.
Just a tiny treat
displayed on a background of flowers.
The sweet tea cup was manufactured by Shelley.
A fine china company well known for their incredible art work on china.
Heirlooms Antique Center has an interesting article on the history of Shelley...
which I must say...is long, curving path from the earliest beginnings in 1822
to their hey day in the 20s with famous Art Nouveau pieces,
and their final days being assimilated by a large conglomerate
which chose to destroy all their pattern molds. Argh!
In the 90s Shelley ended up, after many changes, under the ownership of Royal Doulton.
The backstamp indicates anywhere from 1940-1966.
(UPDATE: Ruth from Antiques and Teacups has informed me that the shape of my cup is the New Cambridge, and did not come into production until 1954, so I can narrow my date by 14 years!
Ruth is an expert on Shelley, which I did not know!
How did I not know that?
Thank you for your help Ruth!
A cup of tea, a cookie and a quiet space.....
It is a loving gift to give one's self,
or to share with another.
Today I am trying out a new tea to me, Val of Pretty Little Rough Patches sent me,
along with a giveaway I had won (sharing soon!).
I had heard years ago that if you needed to have less caffeine in your tea,
then brew it once, give that cup to some one who can have caffeine (lol),
then brew a second cup from the same tea bag. As much as 80% of the caffeine
is in the first 40 seconds or so of brewing. Today I tried this to see...
I love black tea, and as black tea has the highest content of caffeine (20ish to just over 100 mg per cup) I thought it was worth trying.
I found the tea tasty, if only a little weaker than expected.
And I did not notice any negative caffeine effects...Yay!
I hope you are all doing very well and enjoying each day.
Thank you for visiting!

Hello Terri,
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling teacup! Shelley makes such pretty teacups and each one is so special. The cookie looks good too. I must remember that wee tidbit about brewing the teabag a second time as I do not like my tea strong. Thank you for a pretty and interesting post, my friend. Happy Valentines day!
Blesisngs,
Sandi
What a lovely cup and saucer - pink, blue and yellow are always so pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cup! She really is pretty in pink!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of caffeine...I've been off it for some time now...and the other day at a cafe...I forgot to say the simple phrase "de-caf" while ordering my coffee. I finished the entire cup before I realized what I'd done.....!! Needless to say, I was up awake the entire night. Yikes!
Silly me.
Thanks for sharing tea cup Tuesday with all of us....I have enjoyed it from the start.

Hi Terri. Of course I love your teacup! That's a favorite pattern in the New Cambridge shape and was made 1954-1965. They are so lovely! Your photos are alwasy so wonderful! Thakns for hosting!

Hello Terri~ Oh, I love your Shelley cup. Delicate florals, sweet soft colors. The raspberry sandwich cookie looks amazingly tempting! Yes, caffeine steeps out FIRST before flavor. Thus, discarding the initial 20 to 40 seconds of tea and pouring fresh hot water into the cup relieves you of most of the caffeine. Voila! There are YouTube videos demonstrating this easy procedure. Happy Heart day~

Hi Terri,
ReplyDeleteyour tea cup is lovely. It looks very feminine with the pink border and the cute flowers. And the heart cookie looks yummy and so nice for Valentine's day. How interesting to learn about tea brewing and caffeine. I didn't knew that and will try it here. Thank you for sharing this all and for hosting this sweet event.
Best greetings, Johanna
I love reading the history of teacups, especially because the history so often involves far more than just teacups.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely teacup. And I especially appreciate the info about the caffeine content in tea. Hmm, now all we need to do is have someone to share tea with us, I'll take the very caffeinated cup please!

Hi, Terri...It's been a while, so I thought I'd pop in to say "hello" and see your lovely teacups. Yes, I agree this one is such a cheery, sweet thing. She puts a smile on my face just thinking about drinking a hot soothing drink from her.
ReplyDeleteYour heart necklace is delightfully fab, indeed. I'm glad to see you are happily creating.
Blessings for more inspiration,
Marianne xo
Terri - What a great post this week! First of all, I think I'm really ready for spring so your selection with the spring colors and flowers was a true spirit lifter! Second - Shelley - *sigh* - but BOO to destroy all the molds??? What ails some folks with no respect for history and art! Now - the winner here has got to be this great new tip about the caffeine seeping out in the first 40 seconds of brewing. Clever trick, that! Must try sometime . . .
ReplyDeleteJoy!

That's such a gorgeous and lovely teacup - perfectly spring-like! Our little coffee shop sells that tea - I have told myself to try it - next time I'm there I will!
ReplyDeleteI do appreciate you hosting and sharing,
