Tea Cup Tuesday-Tale of Two Creamers

  Hello All!
Welcome to Tea Cup Tuesday!
Today I am sharing two new finds...

I love cream and sugar china.
This pretty little creamer was sitting all alone on a shelf.
So graceful and such beautiful colors!

We looked for her sister, but to no avail.
She was very inexpensive, so she came home with me.

Here is her only mark....351 or 356...
and maybe an incised line underneath?
Can you all see that?

Only one week later, after never having seen this style before...
I saw this little number sitting on a table at a flea market.

The exact same creamer, only in white!
I spoke to the seller and he said he had fallen in love with it,
and bought it even though he did not need it.
He thought she was made around 1905.

He had $10 marked on it...
he said, "you can have her for $5.
Now I was bringing her home too : )

She is just so pretty!
Maybe some day.....

...we will find their mates!
Until then, they will definitely be part of My Garden Tea.

Have you seen any of their kind before?

Here is another chair that I treated to a makeover with Annie Sloan Chalk paints.
She was a little orange...
her stain had been applied many decades ago to look like wood grain.
She has a good strong little cane seat.
The ASCP stick so well to anything, I was eager to give this chair some loving care.

Now she looks like this...
I wish I could get a really good color shot of this..
she has such a fine pink coloring,
and the cream paint underneath,
looks really lovely, but doesn't show in image.
I first applied two coats of Old White by Annie Sloan.
Then I added a few drops of red acrylic paint from my art room
and mixed a nice soft pink.

Two coats of this new pink color,
distressing the areas that would normally wear over time
and then waxing with her clear wax sealer.

***HinT***

I have found makeup applicator circle sponges work well on the chair rungs.
Just smoothing the paint on like you would do foundation...
lol.....I loved the effect. So smooth looking, and so much easier
than trying to apply with a brush.
Just my experience : )

I had to make a decision to paint or not to paint her lovely cane seat...
I am glad I did, it looks really beautiful, and I hope it wears well with use.

I think she looks delicious!
She is a "sit up straight" proper chair,
and my feet touch the ground when I sit on her.
Yay!

The tea tent I am making is ginormous!
Lol!

It fits over a canopy frame 10 x 10".
I am using a pile of old curtains and drapes from Goodwill.

Just a few more side projects and we will be done.
All I need is some good weather and my daughter and I
will have our very first outdoor tea.
Yay!

(would you care to guess the maker on these cups?)

Thank you all so much for all  your lovely comments!
I am working on reaching you all back.
Thank you also for sharing with me your preparations
for your garden tea.
I am glad we are all having fun : )

Martha and I would love to see your china too!
If you want to play along, just go and create a post with your tea cup(s) and then come back here
and then link that post with the linky below.

Thank you for stopping by today!

I hope you are all doing very well and are having a blessed week.
Hugs,
Terri

  5. Hi Teri! I'm back in Blogland, finally, after a very long and exhausting semester with homeschool students. Gah! I've missed all the beauty and inspiration here - and especially at teatime! Congrats on your creamer finds - love the play on Dickens in the title. What a lark that you found the "twins" as you did - with the interesting color variation. Might their be a pink and yellow and green out there somewhere, too - in addition to the sugar bowls? Your chair turned out lovely - and looking forward to the garden canopy for tea. A garden tea party - Hmmmm . . . will think on that . . .
    Joy!

  9. Dear Terri,
Your two creamers are lovely, really exquisite and like Kathryn I loved the title with the allusion to Dickens...
Just imagine the touch of luck that made you find the second creamer!
Those three cups piled up on your beautifully painted chair also make quite a sight!
    A delightful tea, indeed!

  11. Odd to suddenly find two similar and unique creamers but all the better for your collection! In my post, I had a few friends for tea and one gifted me with a teacup that was almost identical to one already on the table. I was pleased to have them both.
I like the chair transformation, and I think the cane seat looks better painted too.
I'm working on little details for my garden party post - like you I will need good weather to set it up and haul everything down 2 sets of stairs from the deck.
    Thanks for hosting.

  34. Hi Teri, I've been away at my cabin for a few days but still wanted to share my tea as I thought of you and all the gals. I'm absolutely charmed by the little creamers you found, and at such a fantastic bargain! They remind me of some opulent French court. Maybe they were lined up, about 20 of them, in front of tea place settings under crystal chandeliers. Lol. Love this chair too. Now I want to go to a goodwill and paint chairs. :) Hugs to you my tea friend.
