I am 50.
A halfway mark? Maybe.
Life can be very long, and its a good thing too, because it has taken me all these years to grow into who I really am. Someone who loves to make things, all kinds of things!
I am currently working on an art piece 12 x24 inches, by far the largest thing I have made in mixed media. At first I was scared of the size...and my lack of experience...and then I heard a little encouraging voice whisper...
"so what....do it anyways".
And I immediately thought, "yeah, so what, what's the worst thing that could happen?"
I realized that just doing it, just taking the steps to do it would teach me so much that I could never learn just thinking about doing it, or reading books or watching others do it....
So, I am doing it, this huge painting of "Marie". And I am learning so much! And I am feeling so good as I do it, I know I am in the right place.
I am posting this wonderful video about loving art, and having doubts about living the artist you are. I hope you enjoy it as well.
Thanks, Bert

OH, Terri - I so like love Odd Thomas! I started with the last book and am working backward. It is now time for another one... I have the first two I have not "read" (which means audio in the car)... Your 12 x 24 sounds so cool. I'm working on some smaller pieces that I will submit for the Alice call at Somerset and see if they get chosen for publication! Ain't art grand, girlfriend!
Great little video, Terri--I watched the whole thing! I think it's wonderful that you're creating, and you're right--do it no matter whether you're unsure about it or not. Many times I think, "What am I doing? I'm not very good at this!" But you know, making art makes me feel good. I think it's fun, it gets my mind off my troubles, and gives me a feeling of accomplishment! Keep creating--I know your new project will be beautiful!!!!!!
Good luck with your 12 x 24 - I can imagine how that would be scary.....but nothing ventured nothing gained! Have fun!
Karen
Good for you, just go and do it, who cares if you even like it or not, that's not the point. Like you said, it is a learning process, and fun too. I find I have to jump right in or I never learn and I do love to learn :)
I am a year older than you Terri, and yes, I hope life is a lot longer because I too have just in the past ten years maybe, figured out what life is all about and where I am in it all :)
Thanks Terri, I think I might try one next time around....I love your work!
The video is so cool!
Thank you Marlynn, Jann, Karen, Lynn and Becs. Your encouragement is so valuable to me!
I love that it says you create while you ride your bike...which is where I get alot of my inspiration.
This video speaks to so many of us because we all get our inspiration from SOMETHING or SOMEWHERE....you just have to SEE IT!
You ARE an artist...don't doubt it, Terri!
From one Terri to another Terri....ain't it nifty to be fifty? I turned 50 last oct. and it scared the daylights out of me at the time. now that i'm 11 months into it, it ain't so bad. i have finally learned that we should make art for ourselves. there are no wrongs or rights when it comes to creating something for ourself. so now when i create i only think of me. not if the girls on the message board will like it, not if my kids or husband will think i'm a little out there...it's for me and what i like and it makes me happy! so delighted to know someone else sees it the same way as i do!!
p.s. can't wait to see your 12 x 24 project!
great little video with a big message....ART because I want to :) One of my favorite stamps says: Art helps me breathe
your larger canvas sounds exciting, it's always good stepping a little out of our comfort zone!
