When I first saw this cup, I thought it was a variation of
Old Country Roses, by Royal Albert.
It matched my OCR teapot shown here.

The beautiful red, yellow and pink roses look so similar.

But I was surprised...

It is actually a cup by Royal Chelsea.
New Chelsea Porcelain Co (LTD) began in 1912, on Bagnall St., Longton, Stoke On Trent, England,
In 1951 they continued work under a new title, New Chelsea China Co (LTD) and closed in 1961.
This cup has a backstamp I have not yet located, but I am guessing
it was manufactured after the firm changed it's name in 51.
This Old Country Roses tea pot was manufactured in Indonesia.
I had not look that closely when I purchased it from Macy's years ago.
I assumed since it was Royal Albert it had been manufactured in England.
Here you see the perfection of Red, yellow and pink roses.
The artist took years to perfect this pattern.

manufacturers and qualities over the years.

What a pretty cup, that touch of gold adds real luxury, I can imagine it would feel very special to have a cuppa from this beauty. Hope you enjoyed your travels, thank you for your comments on my blog too. Elaine x

Good Morning, Terri! Delighted to wake to Old Country Roses - yes - a favorite of mine, too. I am always amazed at the stories behind the patterns and how such works of art we take for granted may possess great drama in the steps taken prior to their gracing our tea tables. I mix and match, too - and I keep my OCR teapot on my computer desk - holding pens and pencils - because I found it for pennies at a yard sale missing the lid. Someday - perhaps- I'll find the lid the same way!

Hi Terri, That was such an interesting article about purchasing the china. I know that many English potteries moved their production to Asia in the late 90s, including Wedgwood who made my everyday Nantucket pattern. Backstamps tell so much! Thank you for hosting. Linda

This cup is the most beautiful one I have seen-the roses in yellow and deep pinks and red looks stunning ,and yes it goes so well with your teapot,- it must be so delightful to have tea from such a special lovely "gold" cup .

Interesting pint about OCR manufacturers. My Mom has this china so I will check hers to see.
All that gold on your teacup makes it look elegant and a good match for the OCR. I had no idea that the china was made anywhere other than England either. Nice to learn something new and as you say, it's all about sharing.

That really is a beautiful cup Teri and my whole heart went out to it. I think it's because my grandmother had these beautiful gilded things in her house in Prague, and later her house here in Vancouver and it's something I associate with her and with treasures from my childhood. (Or, maybe it's as grandma always said and I'm part magpie always attracted to shiny golden things. :)) Hugs to you and I hope your week is shaping up nicely.

The teacup & teapot really do look as if they belong together, and judging from your photos, they do , even though they were made by different companies.
I always find your history of the makers of teacups and china very interesting Terri, your cups & saucers so beautiful, and your posts inspire me to appreciate even more the china I have stored away. ( and to use it ! )

I am always amazed how similar patterns are. I have seen such similarities on English china as much as on German. Anyway, since my participations on the virtual Tea Times I have learned from you all, how nice it looks when matching china is mixed. That looks so perfect on your photos. I don't care where the china is made. Important is just the good look for me. Thank you for sharing your wonderful china and for hosting this sweet event.

Hi Terri...a bit late. Just got back from 3 days at the coast...with no internet access. Love the teacup! Chelsea and their versions is a favorite of mine. There are some strong opinions about Royal Alberts china production now. When I was in Staffordshire 2 years ago, there was talk that production of OCR would be moved back because of quality problems...but haven't heard if it has been. Have a great week! I totally agree about beauty and friendships! So precious!
