Mixed Media Faery School Tutorial!

Hello All!
I wanted to give you all a gift for the new year.
So these past few days I have been working on the first of 3 videos to create a Mixed Media Faery School.

I made one earlier this year and posted about it. You can see it here.

In video #1, I demonstrate how to make the inside and outside of the school from a shoebox. The second video will be making Faeries and the 3rd will be creating the furniture and accessories. This is so much fun! All videos will be done withing 2 weeks, so if you want to make one you will have all 3 videos to watch very soon.

For me, the most exciting part of creating something like this is using my imagination to plan what the school should look like, what the faeries should wear, and what kind of things they would do in school. It is like telling a story, and I love to tell stories!

You can make the exact same one as mine with the notes I have written out. I share everything I used to make it. I did use a number of digi sheets from Paperwhimsy, and a scrapbook sheet from 7gypsies as well. The rest you can pretty much find at your own home. If you click on the link you can download a set of instructions and supplies.

Download Here

A word about PaperWhimsy....I mention them so often, it is because they have the most amazing images available: women, children, faeries, botanical, butterflies, birds, whimsical images, backgrounds, digi images..... They are crisp and clear and the variety is endless. They also are owned and created by absolutely amazing people. Paperwhimsy has an online forum as well, where you can meet other artists and share in swaps and projects. It is a really fun place to be. Paperwhimsy was the first place I found when I got "online" a couple years ago.

You can also, of course, make the school and accessories from papers, images and paints, scrap bits of wood.... you already have.
You could use dictionary or phone book paper, old cards, images from a magazine....photo copies of your own vintage ladies and children....there are no limits here!
Create an entirely different looking school! I would love to see that too.

What a fun project for the faery lover in you, for you and your daughters, and granddaughters....and boys too of course!

If you create one and would like to share, I would love to see what you have created and I will post it on my site to share with my wonderful visitors! Yea!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
Hugs,
Terri

Tea Cup Tuesday-Tea Cups and Vintage Lace

Hello All!
Welcome once again to Tea Cup Tuesday!
It has been quite the busy week here full of all kinds of creating.
My last post was a Mad Tea Party blog hop hosted by Vanessa at A Fanciful Twist. You may find it enjoyable to read and to see the whimsical table my daughter and I set. I even made the Mad Hatter's hat. I will share that in another post.

But today is for tea cups...so on we go to this weeks beauty!
Above you see one of my cups that I think is unique....at least a little.
Also, I am showing off a bit of vintage lace that I think has such a fab color of gray/green.
I know it looks a bit ratty, but I really love the color and texture as well as pattern.

This is one of the first tea cups I bought about 18 years ago.
I found it at an estate sale on my street. I was new to the neighborhood, and did not know the woman who passed on...only knew her to wave to as we walked by. When I went into her house for the sale, I was overwhelmed with a feeling of joy! The entire house felt so good, and I was sure this was the energy of the woman who lived there. So when I spotted this cup, it was like bringing home a treasure from a friends house! I brought home many items from that sale, and I really feel they have added to the joy in my home.

I love the gold trim. And I think it was only $5!

The flower is so pretty and seems to just flow around the cup. The leaves are an interesting shape as well.

I remember thinking what an odd shape for a handle....bat like even!

I thought the scalloped edge and the eyelets were beautiful.

This cup sits on a pedestal that also has eyelets.
Don't laugh, but I do not recognize this stamp! Is it HR or HHR?
I bet some of you know the maker.
I would really appreciate it if you could tell me : )

I covered this paper mache egg with a tissue paper transfer I created from an old French legal paper from the mid 1860s. I am still deciding what else I could do to it. You can view my newest free video on Tissue Paper Transfers by clicking on this LINK or going up the right hand side of my blog at the top and clicking on the picture of the tissue transfers.

And here below is my next and last gift to win for my Happy June Giveaway! This French inspired Domino book! You only need be a follower to enter, just leave a comment to this post and let me know you would like to enter.

Only two more days until I pick the winners for each of the 5 prizes!

As I have said before, I wish I had a present for each and everyone of you.

Terri

Tissue Paper Transfer Video!

Hello All!
Today I am sharing with you my newest video. Tissue paper Transfers! Yay! I love creating with these transfers, the variety of images are endless and can be used in all types of projects. You can used them for backgrounds, for layers, for cards, tags, to cover boxes...all kinds of ways. Below is an ATC card I made using a tissue transfer image in the background. I took the images from an vintage women's magazine.

Since creating this video I have realized that I can rub a bit of black Stazon ink on one side of the transparency, just a light coating, and then the printer is able to "see" it better. No need for the extra copy paper sheet. Remember to seal your tissue paper after you print it, both sides. This helps to stop bleeding of the ink when you adhere it to your art work with glue or gel medium. Even then, be careful as you apply it not to rub too much. Test out a little piece of your transfer first, just to see how set the ink is.

Hugs to you all!
Terri

Match Box Treasures

Happy Saturday Everyone!
I thought I might share a little of what I have been working on in my art room.
I love making lovely things from items I would normally throw out! There is something that feels so good about taking garbage and giving it a new purpose.

This match box project was inspired by Holly who hosted this swap at Marie Antoinette Mail Art Ning group. The first one I have sent off to Debi and the second is one of my upcoming giveaway items! Yes, I am having a giveaway for June, and there will be at least 6 gifts to win!
Yay! I love giveaways!

To create one of these you begin with an empty match box. This is the larger 4 3/4"x3 3/4" size boxes. If you don't have any almost empty ones sitting around, they come in a pack of 6 and only cost about $3 at Kroger's.

I used a French perfume label made available by the Graphics Fairy.
Thank you so much Karen! (Today I am joining Brag Monday for the first time)
If you have never been to Karen's site, you are in for a treat. It is full of all kinds of free images that are perfect for creating and decorating.

I primed the box with gesso to hide the bright red color.
The background paper I made myself by doing a tissue paper transfer off of an 130 year old French document I purchased in Paris at the Fleas.

I am just finishing a new video tutorial on how to do tissue paper transfers (paper saving version). This video will be out before next weekend. Yay!

I filled the box with all kinds of paper ephemera, as well as charms, ribbons, lace, and millinery (new and vintage). It was stuffed to the brim!
Inside is also a tiny matchbox that I filled with vintage beads, cabochons, buttons, pearls, rhondelles...little treasures for creating.

Art Tea Life by Sandra Gordon, has a fabulous paper doll Marie page. I have minimized it's size so I could mail it along with the box.

This second box I have made is for our upcoming GIVEAWAY!!!

This time I used a Echo Park Papers "Be Mine" series scrapbook paper. I gessoed it a bit to take the brightness down, added some silk ribbon, velvet leave, and a vintage flower. The Marie cameo I created myself.

...and here is a sneak peek of some of the goodies inside!!!I will be announcing the beginning of the giveaway by June 1st.I would love to hear about what you are creating this weekend.Thank you so much for stopping by!
Hugs,
Terri

Creative Fun!

Hello All!
I have been crafting away over this past week,
and I thought I might share a part of what I am doing....
More domino books!
I love making these!

This little girl is Parisian!

I really enjoyed creating this one, with all it's pink and glitter goodness!

The images I have been using are from Digital Collage Sheets, The Graphics's Fairy, Art Tea Life by Sandy Gordon and Narry from Etsy. Thank you to all these artists for making available inspiring images.

I adore this image of Marie Antoinette.

Here is a blue version of the same, only the inside is more modern.

It is a travel mini book....you could add some pictures and words to it.
(....this one is going to be in an upcoming giveaway).

Here is the back...I just happened to have a little suitcase charm that includes Paris on it.

Side view.

This glittery one is not quite done.

Here is the back, I am still working on the other side.

This one is one of my favorites because of the cool crackly and antiqued finish.

A little vintage lace and closure...

And an inside that is vintage on the front...

And the back.

Happy Friday!
I hope for you two days of creating something you love!
Thank you so much for stopping by.
(and yes, I did say I was having a giveaway...I will be posting about it soon, many gifts to win!)
Hugs,
Terri

Postcard Art

Hello All,
What a beautiful week it has been here, lots of clouds, rain and wind...which is what we need, and is so very helpful when I am welcoming my muse back home!

I tried some post card art for the first time...nothing like giving a new project a go when I am ready to get my creative juices flowing again.

The swap theme at Paperwhimsy.com forum is "Spring Friends" and I immediately thought of my sisters. So I joined the swap and began with this piece. I want to do much more of this, it was very enjoyable! The images are from Paperwhimsy. They have so many fabulous images and supplies. I do love to shop there!

I do hope that each of you are doing well,
creating art and looking out for beauty!

Hugs,
Terri

Valentine Dreaming

Hello All
Happy Saturday!
What a bright and shiny new day to experience!

How wonderful that at this time more people are focused on Love more than any other time of the year. Little children are creating and signing their cards to other little children, lovers are wondering what would be a romantic way to say "I love you" to their significant other. Some of us older romantics are basking in the knowledge that our long times loves are the greatest teachers we have ever known.

To feel loved is such an incredible feeling. To share love is a great joy.
I love having this special day to increase my desire to do both!
In fact, how about we have some more days created just to focus on LOVE!

Here is a hanging Valentine's Day card I have made to show someone that I love them.

Have a lovely weekend!
Hugs,
Terri

Valentine Creativity

Hello All!

I have been playing with some romantic ideas for Valentines day. These little boxes are sweet and just the right size for a pair of earring, a small necklace or some little notes of love written out on strips of parchment.

They are very easy to do. I bought some heart shaped boxes from a craft store and painted them with Gesso, then the color of my choice. I did not paint the top of the box though, I left that free for the image I had chosen to glue on with tacky glue. I also glued on a strip of vintage lace trim around the lid. Then I used Diamond Glaze just along the outer edges to adhere a string of vintage rhinestones. When that was dry, I filled in the center with more Diamond Glaze (let it dry overnight). I used a thin line of Stickles just below the rhinestones on the outer edge.

More Valentine crafting to come!
Hugs,
Terri

New Free Holiday Banner Video

Hello Every One and Happy December!

To celebrate the beginning of the most magical month of the year, I have created a little video showing how to make a simple banner that you could drape across the front of your fireplace mantle, or over a window... or anywhere!

In this video I do a banner with the word LOVE, in the photo the banner says JOY.

You could do these banners in so many different ways...they are super easy and fast. I made two from scratch in one day.

I hope you enjoy this little gift to you.

Hugs,
Terri

Mixed Media Mary Shrine

Hello All,
Today I spent some time in my art room. It was a beautiful morning....the window was open and a slight breeze was flowing in...I could heard the birds singing their morning song.....All is Well.

I began my "Sacred Heart" shrine because I am reading the book "Traveling with Pomegranates" by Sue Monk Kidd. Sue's journey is similar to mine, and I am finding her story very inspiring. I was surprised to see this months Mixed Media Monday challenge was to create a shrine! So here it is.

Just below Mary are words that say "The Fire at the bottom of my Heart" This is a statement from the book. I don't want to give it away though...so I won't explain it : )
I hope that you are enjoying this week and creating something from your heart.
Hugs,
Terri
