Making a Journal for Healing

I have had a pleasure creating my own journal this past week!
Yay!
I have always wanted to make one from start to finish!

I began with some scrapes of quilt I had dyed ages ago...lovely colors that make me smile...

My inspiration came from a class  I have been taking with Misty Mawn...
she is a sweet, very creative woman.
I adore her, and her classes.

I had made a few small bound books before...but had not felt so free to create a journal from scratch!
Misty has a class on creating a journal (as well as many other classes)
And her class really gave me confidence that I could make one!
(and just so you know, the steps I show here are not from her class, just my playing around)

And I will admit, I fudged it, and went along and just made it...
without really thinking or following instructions!!!
( I do think Misty would like that! Lol!)

Gosh it is fun to play!

I painted the two layer piece of fabric with gesso, hoping to toughen up the spine...

I created 4 signatures in hopes that I will have enough pages to express on...

Then I did sewing of sorts to get each signature tight to the spine.

I am hoping my sewing will hold strong!

Embroidery is not really in my repertoire...but I gave it a go, it looks pretty 60's ish to me...
but hey, that is part of my childhood...I guess it came out here : )

Some projects are just so enJoyable!
Now to be brave and face the first white blank page...take out my gesso, papers,
images, paints and stamps and start my journey : )

How is your creative week end going?
I have had some issues lately getting on to some of your blogs.
Sometimes it says I need to have permission?
I think it may have to do with Google +
Have any of you had this issue?

Hugs,
Terri

Hi Terri,

First off...I LOVE LOVE LOVE your "Journal for Healing"!
Also a great title! :)
Those are my colors...I love looking at it!! :)
You did awesome work on the spine as well. I have wanted to learn bookbinding like that for a long time. The dyed quilted fabric is beautiful, nice job! :)

I just posted a little collage on my blog, that I made for a friend for her birthday. I also have made a fabric cuff for a special friend in California. So that is what I have been up to!!

Blessings and hugs,

What a beautiful journal Terri! I love how you used gesso to toughen the spine-great idea! Your dyed quilts are so lovely too.

I've been playing with my new obsession-the Gelli Plate-posted some smples on my blog. Oh, I noticed too that if someone's using Google Plus I can't leave a comment unless I join Google Plus.

Terri, you have the knack for this down pat! How lovely your new Healing Journal is with the embroidery on such beautiful hand dyed quilted fabrics. It's darling. I LOVE it! And you'll be inspired to journal healing thoughts.

I did some digital art thingies in my spare time this week, but nothing more. I can't wait for all the house projects to come to a close and for cooler weather to settle in. That's when I'm at my most creative self.

Have a lovely weekend. Journal and create more beautiful things for yourself. I give you MY permission! :)

Hugs
Jan

It is BEAUTIFUL and it didn't scream the '60s to me. I am a quilter and a life-long journal keeper so this REALLY appeals to me.
That said, I have 2 Qs: what is a signature and how did you see threw paper?

Thank you!

Yes Terri those who having Google + are missing out as they have to allow us to see them, I tried it and stopped it as when Rebecca from Gathering Place told me she couldn't see me anymore and a few others mentioned that as well. You would think they would try and connect everyone together not divide up us, Ummm... silly stuff I say, Anyway down to the point, Your journal is just fabulous and I love the Bird, the colors and all the quilting with the felt letters, awww Terri so beautiful and so much talent you have. You sweet nature and spirit shines through all your work! You did an awesome good job on the spine and I know that can be a bit tough on the ole' fingers! I have had to use mini needle nose pliers to pull some of mine through. Big Hugs Terri, now I'm off to blog about our flag project:) Don't forget Downton Abby will be coming up soon, Season 3, I can't wait! xoxo Marilou
